COVID19 Infection Prevention and Control for the Aged Care Sector

Older persons living in institutional care or residential care facilities are the group most vulnerable to COVID-19 deaths. There are an estimated 1,400 residential aged care facilities with 30,000 residents in Malaysia. Most of these homes are unregistered and have issues with overcrowding and understaffing. This training module is commission by the World Health Organization to help train the care workers at Malaysian aged care facilities to prevent our home from being ravaged by COVID-19.  There will be a total of 10 modules, each module delivered through combinations of narrated power point slides (of 5-10-minute length), three-minute videos, infographics, and simulations. All modules will comprise pre-and-post assessments comprising 10 T/F MCQs selected randomly from a pool of 30 questions. The modules are aimed at care workers of aged care facilities, some of whom will have minimal educational qualification and others, foreign workers, with limited command of English and Malay. The module, therefore, will need to be available in Malay, Chinese and Tamil in addition to the English language.

At the end of this training program, participants will be able to: 

  1. Describe Covid-19 and its risks on older people and care workers in residential aged care settings
  2. Identify the recommended measures in preventing and controlling the spread of infections in aged care settings.
  3. Demonstrate measures adopted in preventing and controlling the spread of infections in the aged care facility

Primary Care Dermatology 1
Primary Care Dermatology 1 will be a refresher to basic knowledge on the management of skin diseases covering 5 important topics, especially the big 3 in dermatology, i.e Eczema, Acne, and Psoriasis. In the offing is Primary Care Dermatology2, 3, etc which will look at other important skin diseases as well.

Upon completion of the session, participants will be able to: 

  1. To refresh basic knowledge on skin anatomy and physiology
  2. To enhance knowledge on the recognition and management of common skin problems such as infection, tumours, acne, psoriasis and eczema.
  3. To assess personal  knowledge of common skin problems

Infectious Diseases
Kursus ini merangkumi prinsip asas patologi yang merangkumi patologi am dan patogen serta hubungkait dengan pengetahuan anatomi, fisiologi dan biokimia. Ia merangkumi aspek etiologi, patogenesis, perubahan morfologi dan kepentingan klinikal. Ia juga merangkumi pengetahuan tentang mikroorganisma penyebab penyakit berjangkit. Ia juga meliputi ciri, cara penyebaran, patogenesis dan manifestasi klinikal penyakit tersebut. Diagnosis dan prinsip rawatan dan pencegahan penyakit berjangkit juga ditekankan. Ia turut merangkumi tempat jangkitan menurut sistem dalam tubuh badan manusia.

(The course encompasses principles of basic pathology which include general pathology and pathogens and relates with anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. It covers aspects of aetiology, pathogenesis, morphological changes and clinical significance.) The course also encompasses the knowledge of causative microorganisms in infectious diseases. It also covers the characteristics, modes of transmission, pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of the disease. Diagnosis and principle of management of infectious diseases are emphasised. It also covers all parasitic infection according to its distribution in human body)

Upon completion of the session, participants will be able to:

1. relate concept of inflammatory process and the inflammation changes due to infection (C3)(menghubungkait konsep dengan proses yang terlibat dalam inflamasi akibat jangkitan)

2. describe precisely characteristics of pathogen which infecting human and the relevant confirmatory lab procedures  (P2) (menerangkan ciri-ciri patogen yang menjangkiti manusia serta ujian pengenalpastian makmal) .

3.link the related aspects of various systems to pathological changes, clinical manifestation and pharmacology treatment (P3) (menghubungkait pelbagai aspek sistem tubuh dengan perubahan patologi, manifestasi penyakit dan rawatan farmakologi pesakit.)

4. identify issues on preventive measures related to infection of all systems (A4,LL) (mengenalpasti masalah dalam strategi pencegahan penyakit berjangkit dalam pelbagai sistem tubuh.) (A4, LL)
